What a wind rating can tell you
A published wind figure can help you compare products, but only when you understand the conditions behind it: model, size, louver position, anchoring, installation, substrate and test or engineering assumptions.
Why the biggest number is not automatically the best choice
Current manufacturer claims vary widely. Mirador lists 90.2 mph on the 111S with professional assembly and anchoring; FlexPatio lists 80 mph for POWER+ Gen 2 and 165 mph for POWER+ PRO Gen 2; current PERGOLUX Series 3 size pages advertise up to 150 mph with closed slats. Those numbers are not necessarily based on identical conditions.
Anchoring changes the real-world question
The structure is only part of the system. Anchors, concrete, footings, deck structure and wall attachments matter. Screens, walls and enclosures may also change wind behavior.
Local approval is a separate issue
A manufacturer’s published wind rating does not mean a pergola is automatically approved for your property or local building code. Verify the exact model, installation instructions, engineering documentation and local requirements before purchasing.
